Mariner's Luck comes out today, accompanied by several personal ill-omens that greeted me with the morning. Oy. Let's hope it's just the universe fucking with me.

Book 3: The Land of Night went for first proof to the editors two weeks ago. I expect to be working on that most of December and will be sending the 2nd edit back in early January. Book 3 is the largest of the series and by far the most complicated, in terms of plot. There is so much to wrap up: nearly 210,000 words of storyline to be resolved in the last book, and for some reason it's proving to be a hard slog for me. This could be because I'm eager to work on Erisine and other projects, or simply because, after nearly 3 years, I want to take a break from telling the stories of Nemerl. There is so much there, so much to explore, but I have other ideas in my head and they're crowding Nemerl out for the time being. Fear not, though. I still love Scarlet and Liall and I love telling their story. Look for The Land of Night to be released in early 2007 from Torquere Press. Ciao!

I just sent in a (probably) last-edit-before-proofing-edit of Mariner's Luck to Torquere Press and I'm feeling a lot better about the book overall now. I've been whimpering and writhing in indecision about a lot of things with this sequel: everything from how to introduce the main characters again to how to link it back to Book 1 to how to end what is clearly the middle novel of a trilogy. I'm not sure we've worked it all out yet or what the proofers will say, but I'm liking it more.

Now comes the editing on the still-as-yet untitled Book 3. In a lot of ways, this will be an easier book. Once it's over, everyone will know who Liall is, his secret, why he left Rshan, why the Rshani are so averse to the Hilurin and how they are bound to the Shining Ones. There are so many things I was just bursting to reveal in Books 1 and 2 and I couldn't.

I had to settle for spilling my guts to my RPG peeps at Nemerl MUSH. Oh yes, they know it all. When you play the game, you need the backstory. Ha!

I'm considering calling Book 3 The Land of Night, since the story takes place in Rshan na Ostre, but I just KNOW that when I get to the end of that edit that a completely new kick-ass title will come to me and I will have already said what the title will be in Book 2's author notes and it will be wrong. Bleh!

Well, since I am nowhere near finished with Book 3's edits, time to get back to it. :) Ta!
